GMEs AccuSat Series, available with or without an integrated GPS option, are leading the world with feature innovation and user benefits in their PLB units.
Not only is the AccuSat Series the smallest and lightest PLB on the market, both models offer a massive 7 year battery replacement life, an industry first 7 year warranty, a high intensity LED strobe and a Non Hazmat battery pack for simple and cost effective transportation, all contributing to the unique AccuSat advantage.
The current 121.5/243 MHz analogue COSPAS SARSAT service will be terminated in February 2009 and only the 406 MHz digital beacon signals will be processed thereafter. Consumers have for some time recognised the major benefits of a 406 MHz over a 121.5 MHz device in faster, more accurate detection, personal identification of each beacon, reduced search area resulting in a faster more targeted response in a life threatening situation. However the prohibitive cost of 406 MHz beacons has always been an issue.
The 406 MHz PLB sends a signal to the cospas-sarasat system which is a complete global search and rescue service using satallites to pick a distress signal and notify the appropriate agency with important information such as individual's name, adress, phone number and also giving longitude and latitude coordinates so that they can make a phone call to make sure that it's not an accidental activation and also so that can get to within 100 meters of where you are at.
The ACCUSAT is automatically activated when the antenna is deployed which can be done with one hand by pressing hte yellow arrow on the back of the unit. There is a 60 second delay in case of accidental activation but after that, there is not warm up required and normally within 35 seconds, it will acquire a GPS fix and send out the signal.
With a weight of 8.8 ounces and measureing a mere 5.3" thick, it is the lightest and smallest PLB on the market. It also incorporates a rescue strobe that flashes 20 times a minute when activated to help you be seen in low visibility situations and the audible beep that you and the rescuers can hear. It has a seven year non hazmat battery which makes transporting it easy, and it's waterproof and will float without the assistance of a floatation collar. It comes with a carrying case and lanyard so that it can be easily worn around your neck or wrist, on your belt or put inside your backpack or flight bag.
The ACCUSAT also comes with a warranty for the original owner that covers manufacturere defects in material and workmanship for 7 years from the date of purchase.
Today with cutting edge microprocessor technology, GMEs engineers are able to provide the outdoor adventurer with a 406 MHz PLB solution that is not only affordable, but provides enhanced peace of mind for boaters, bush walkers, 4 x 4 enthusiasts and aviators should they ever require emergency assistance.
GME has been designing and manufacturing emergency beacons in Australia for over 30 years. In that time literally hundreds of lives have been saved in Australia and around the world.
